EAST PALESTINE – Janell Maryetta Wellman, 91, of East Palestine, passed away late Tuesday night, on February 24, 2026, at The Hospice House in Poland.
Janell was born on December 31, 1934, in Perrysburg, OH, the daughter of Harold Davenport and Grace Maryetta (Nietz) Twining. She married Lowell Baz Wellman in 1956, and together they raised three children. Janell attained a BS in Sociology and Psychology from North Central College in Naperville, IL and held a pilot's license. She worked for many years as a counselor and social worker for the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR).
Janell enjoyed reading as well as being a gardener and a baker. She was also the Organist for 40 years at the Holy Trinity and Christ the King churches. She loved being with family and was a foster mother to 16 children over the years. She, along with her husband Lowell, enjoyed airplanes and being a pilot.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children Kathryn Holm, Margaret (Craig) Wade, and Stephen (Corina) Wellman, all of Columbiana, nine grandchildren: Laura, Christopher, Luke, Elisabeth, Emily, Andrew, Evan, Nicole and Shane; and 16 great grandchildren with one on the way.
Janell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lowell in 2015, and brother Dale Twining.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Upper Room Fellowship, 500 Sponseller Road, Columbiana, officiated by Christopher Holm and Craig Wade.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Christian House in East Palestine, where she was cared for with compassion and grace. A special thank you also to her many friends that she made there.
The family has entrusted Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio with the arrangements for their loved one.
