Obituary

Jean S. Winegord, 95, passed away at 5:30 am Wednesday, April 06, 2011 at the Salem Community Hospitol following a brief illness. Mrs. Winegord, was born on December 11, 1915, the daughter of Ira A. and Anna (Mayme)Moore Schnurrenberger. As a fourth grade school teacher, she taught in the Columbiana, Greenford, and Salem City schools for 36 years. Following her teaching career, she worked as a clerk in the Columbiana office of the Quaker State Oil Refining Corp. for five years. She was a graduate of Greenford HS, Kent State University where she received a 2 year diploma, and also attended Youngstown State University. Being a member of the Disciples Christian Church (Boardman) for 50 plus years, she served as a trustee and member of the choir. Mrs. Winegord belonged to the local, state, and national education organizations, the American Legion Auxiliary #290, the Columbiana area Republican Club, A.A.R.P. Chapter #813, lifetime member of the Friends of the Library, honorary lifetime member of the Irish Setter Club of Ohio, and Delta Kappa Gamma International Society. She married Everett C. Winegord on August 29, 1946 who died on August 22, 1992. Together they showed Champion Irish Setter dogs and Jean often served as a Judge at A.K.C. sanctioned puppy matches. Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Mrs. Darrell (Marion) Minard, and a nephew. Survivors include two nieces. Services will be held Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Columbiana Cemetery Chapel, at 11 am with Mr. Clarence Mansfield officiating (no calling hours will be held). Material contributions may be made to the donors choice. Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
