COLUMBIANA - Joanna R. Witmer, 78, passed away peacefully Friday evening, February 19 at her home with her loving family around her. Joanna was born on April 1, 1937 in North Lima, OH, a daughter of David and Kathryn (Smucker) Steiner. A 1955 graduate of North Lima High School, she married David Witmer on September 29, 1956 and they enjoyed 59 years together. Along with her husband, she helped start and operate Witmer's Feed and Grain, which opened in 1978. There, she was the office manager and Vice-President. A life-long member of North Lima Mennonite Church, Joanna was the organist and a Sunday school teacher, and remained active for many years in many church activities. She belonged to the Gideon's Auxiliary as well. She enjoyed traveling and loved flowers and gardening. Joanna was a great cook and well known for her "sticky buns" she would provide for the monthly church breakfast. Above all, family came first and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She leaves her husband David; seven children, Terry and his wife Tammy of Columbiana, Denise Niemi and her husband William of Columbiana, Michael and his wife Laura of Columbiana, Michelle Dula and her husband Andrew of Lancaster, PA, Sharyn Iwaniec and her husband Jim of Portland, OR, Jenelle Alderfer and her husband Rodney of Harrisonburg, VA and Beth Bowman and her husband Jonathan of Lancaster, PA; 17 grandchildren; and five siblings, Martha Sue Headings of Archbold, OH, Paul Steiner of North Lima, Albert Steiner of Evanston, IL, Dan Steiner of Elkhart, IN, and Sam Steiner of Kitchener, ON. Joanna was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 24 at 11:00 a.m. at North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive with Pastor Bob Wengerd officiating. Interment will follow at Midway Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 23 at 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive, North Lima.
