Obituary

John Berardi Jr., 76 of North Lima, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and wife of 57 years, on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Hospice House in North Lima, following a brief illness. John was born on September 17, 1931 in Ellsworth, Ohio, the son of Giovanni and Mary Ann (Cataline) Berardi Sr.. John was a lifelong area resident, residing in North Lima 45 years. He was a graduate of Canfield High School. Mr. Berardi was owner/operator of Berardi's Truck service in North Lima for many years. In earlier years he also worked for A.P. Ohora Construction and helped build the Ohio turnpike, worked for All Erection Crane Co. of Cleveland and was a pilot for B& B construction of Youngstown, Ohio. Jr. was known for generosity, his love for animals and his wit. He also enjoyed his annual trips to Las Vegas where he got to meet Elvis and the Marx brothers. Jr. was an avid racetrack fan. He also enjoyed flying his twin beach airplane, in which he once flew Lorne Greene in for a benefit. John is survived by his wife, Esta P. (Burd) Berardi, whom he married on October 23, 1950. Other survivors include his children, three daughters, Glory (Frank) Zamarelli of Salem, Kathy Landis and Curt Penrose of North Lima, Ohio and Rebecca Cooke of Youngstown, Ohio; two sons, John "Cleve" Berardi of North Lima, Ohio and Angelo (Jennifer) Berardi of Boardman, Ohio; one brother, Robert (Mary) Berardi of Atwater, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Jason Cooke, Johnny, Bryon, Tony and Brandy Berardi, David and Essie Landis, Taylor and Brittany Zamarelli, Vincent and Mario Berardi; Six great-grandchildren, Jeremy Lyda, Alyssa and Kyle Berardi, Mason Landis, Emerson and Riley Berardi. John was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Pellicioni and Honey Bates and by four brothers, Grant, Pat and Joe Berardi and Dominic Fererri. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2008 at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima, with Rev. Fred Markusic officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Calling Hours will be from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
