Obituary

John "Bob" Burkey Jr., 82, of Columbiana, Ohio, passed away at 3:35 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2008 at Caprice Health Care of infirmities of age. Mr. Burkey was born April 20, 1925 in Columbiana, the son of John R. and Elizabeth (Hough) Burkey. Bob was a life long area resident. He worked as a truck driver for forty years as a teamster. In earlier years, he worked for Ted Mesmer & Sons in North Lima and Hennis Freight Lines. Mr. Burkey was a member of the Columbiana Baptist Church and the Teamster Local 377 of Youngstown and served from 1942-1945 in W.W.II European Theatre in the Army and fought in the battle of the Bulge. Bob was a member of the Negley Masonic Lodge # 565 F. & A.M.. His hobbies included restoring and showing antique tractors. He showed his tractors at the Canfield Fair and many local parades. Mr. Burkey is survived by his companion Edith McMurray of Columbiana and one daughter; Nancy Kilmer of Richmond, Virginia, four sons; Daniel Burkey of Greenford, Bob Burkey of Salem, Wayne and Randy Burkey, both of North Lima, one sister; Mary Rohrman of Struthers, one brother; Clarence Burkey of Castlebury, Florida, twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by one brother; Raymond Burkey. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with Ken Clark officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery, where The American Legion Benjamin Firestone Post #290 will conduct a military honors service. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2008 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday, March 17, 2008. A Masonic Service will be conducted following the Sunday Calling Hours.
