NORTH LIMA - John Allen Cullar, 91, passed away at Hospice House in Beaver Township Friday evening January 2, 2015. John Allen was born December 23, 1923 in North Lima, Ohio to John and Rena (Metzler) Cullar. He was born and raised on his family farm where he was the fourth generation farmer in his family. John and his wife, Lillie, owned and operated Paradise Green House and vegetable farm until their retirement in 1993. John graduated from North Lima High School and attended Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana. He was a lifetime member of Midway Mennonite Church where he served as deacon for many years. He also worked with the Mennonite Disaster Service. He was active with Ohio Farm Bureau, where he was a past recipient of the Farmer of the Year award. His farm was routinely chosen to be showcased as part of local farm tours. He served with the Gideons, the Beaver Ruritans, and enjoyed piloting single engine planes in his free time. He hosted young men from Europe with an international farm training program. He and Lillie traveled to Europe, Alaska and much of the continental United States. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lillie Goering of Moundridge, Kansas, and an infant son, John Craig Cullar. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Harold Cullar and his sister, Ardith Blosser. A kind-hearted person with a gentle spirit, he was loved and will be greatly missed by many cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10 at 3 p.m. at Midway Mennonite Church, 13376 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Columbiana, OH 44408 with Pastor Jesse Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, January 10 at Midway Mennonite Church. Interment will follow at Midway Cemetery. The family suggests material contributions may be made in John Allen's memory to Midway Mennonite Church, 13376 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Columbiana, OH 44408, or Gideons International, PO Box 73, Columbiana, OH 44408.
