John "Jack" James Hill was born in Youngstown, December 15, 1926, a son of James and Elizabeth Campbell Hill. He moved from Youngstown, Ohio to Columbiana, Ohio in 1975. He belonged to the first Cub Scout Pack of Youngstown, Epworth United Methodist Church (now Western Reserve Methodist), a member of Warren Jr. VFW Military Band, graduate of Youngstown South High School in l944, B.S. Music Education Degree (Youngstown College - now Youngstown State University), Master of Education Degree from Westminster Presbyterian College, New Wilmington , PA and Ohio Police School. In W.W. II he served as Sgt. Assistant Band Director of the 256th U.S. Army Ground Forces Band from 1945-1946. He has been active in Columbiana Council of Boy Scouts, Advancement Chairman, Assistant Adult Scout Leader of Troop 18, Commissioner of Sandy Beaver District Buckeye Council, Wood Badge, Loggers Award, Adult training and a scout leader. He is a Paul Harris and past-president of Columbiana Rotary. A member of Benjamin Firestone American Legion Post #290, former Columbiana Village Board of Education member , Columbiana Police Department, Ohio Water Corp Security, former Mahoning Co. Sheriff Reserve Corps and impact Squad under Ray T. Davis. He taught band music in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana schools including the former Youngstown South High Band. His last years in education were spent as Guidance Counselor and Aviation instructor at Beaver Local High School. He enjoyed flying out of Youngstown Southern Airport and Elser Airport. He was a former member of Sulgrave Lodge Youngstown, now a member of Allen Lodge, Columbiana, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Youngstown, Shrine Club, Royal Arch Masons, Al Koran Shrine in Cleveland, Commandry II42 Knights Templar, New Lisbon Chapter II92 Commandry, the Omega Council 44 Royal & Select Masons and the Trinity United Methodist of Youngstown. Survivors include his wife, (Hester) Ann (Montgomery) Hill, whom he married August 22, 1952, a son James Earl Montgomery (Monty) Hill and his wife Lisa of Poland and a grandson Ross James Hill. Services will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with Rev. Steve Sparling officiating. Burial will be in Lake Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Tuesday, January 26, 2010 and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana. A Masonic Service will be held at 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, material tributes may take the form of memorial donations to the Trinity United Methodist Church 30 W. Front St. Youngstown, Ohio.
