Obituary

John P. Sheldon, 83 passed away June 15 at 11:15 a.m. with his family by his side. He suffered a long fight with asbestoses for four years at his home. John was born September 15, 1927, a son Fred and Ruth (Dunn) Sheldon. He moved to the North Lima, Ohio area at the age of four. He graduated from North Lima High School in 1945. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Transfortation Department in World War II. Later in life, he entered the Salem branch of Kent State University. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in drafting, receiving the highest honors in his class. He loved his family and loved spending time with them. He loved card games and trips to Branson, Missouri. He had a love for country music and square dancing. He also enjoyed singing in the church choir, where he and his wife had sung for 27 years. He served on Consistory in past years. John also served as a deacon at his church. He also loved helping at the church dinners and cheering for the softball teams at the church. John was also a big fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years, Lucille; his children, John (Cindy) Sheldon of Columbiana, Janet Ondray of North Lima, and Doris (Greg) Bokesch of Poland; his step-children, Greg Glass of Vancouver, WA, Trudi (Jim) Vrablel of Parma, and Mary Sue Bailey of New Waterford. He also leaves grandchildren Jenifer (John) Albert of Medina, Christina (Clinton) Moore of Longview, WA, Karen (Joel) Witlock, of Hillsboro, OR, Echo Seidler of Girard and Christi Bailey of New Waterford. John leaves Michelle Bloom of Akron, who he and Lucille were honorary grandparents to. He leaves three step-grandchildren, Brandon (Kaylinda) Stanbury of East Liverpool and Ryan Stanbury of Leetonia. John also leaves four great-grandchildren, T.J., Jason, Melanie, and Ryan, and four step-great-grandchildren, Alex, Brooke, Grace, and Faith. A sister, Lucille Tarr of Wadsworth, and many nieces and nephews also survive. John was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Howard, Fred, and Bill; sisters Mildred Burkhart, Edna Snyder, Ruth Beckner, Eunice Sheldon, and Dorothy MacGillivray. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Friday, June 17 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, North Lima Chapel, and from 10 to 11 am Saturday at the Paradise United Church of Christ, located at the corner of Calla and New Buffalo roads. Services will be at 11 am Saturday, June 18 at the church. Burial will follow at the Paradise United Church of Christ Cemetery.
