Obituary

John W. Stapleton, 82, of New Middletown, died Monday, April 30, at his home. John was born in Huntingdon, Pa. on August 3, 1929, a son of Wilbur and Grace (Clark) Stapleton. In 1947 He entered the U.S. Navy, where he fought in the Korean War. He was discharged in 1954, and moved to Youngstown, Ohio in 1955. In 1962 he relocated to New Middletown. He worked as a steelworker for Youngstown Sheet and Tube and as a crane man for LTV Steel of Youngstown for 30 years. John belonged to many organizations, including the N.R.A., the 2nd Amendment Foundation, and the American Legion Post 15 of Poland. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club, as well as collecting bells and paperweights. His enthusiasm for his collections led him to join the American Bell Association and the International Paperweight Society. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Mary Anne Wright, whom he married December 13, 1956; three sons, Gerald at home, William of Struthers, and Alan of Youngstown; and one sister, Lois Kyper. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Dovenspike and Eva Stapleton. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday May 4 at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with Reverend Keith Dovenspike officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Friday from 11:00 to noon at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at Trough Creek Valley Baptist Cemetery.
