Obituary

CINCINNATI-Joseph Michael Yacher, 95, passed away Tuesday evening, August 20, at Mt. Washington Care Center in Cincinnati, Ohio after an extended illness. Joseph was born on September 28, 1917 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of John and Viola (Makowiec) Yacher. He lived in Leetonia, Ohio until 2003, when he moved to Cincinnati to be closer to his children. He was a graduate of South High School in Youngstown and a member of the Polish National Catholic Church his whole life. He worked at Railway Express after high school and in 1944 joined the Army Air Corps where he served as a flight engineer during World War II. Joseph served on a crew flying General Douglas MacArthur and other generals. After returning stateside, Joseph worked as a farmer raising chickens. He enjoyed carpentry, working on farm buildings and making toys and furniture for his family. He leaves to cherish his wife of 69 years, the former Stella Maslach whom he married on February 20, 1944; a son, John M. Yacher; a daughter, Susan (John) Maloney; a grandson, Scott A. Maloney, all of Cincinnati; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Jacqueline Maureen Yacher, his son Michael Joseph Yacher, his sister Mary Kraynak and brothers Kazmer, Juni and Edward Yacher. Joseph was a member of American Legion Benjamin Firestone Post 290 and Disabled American Veterans. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 26 at 10 a.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima with the Very Reverend John Rencewicz, II celebrating. The family will receive friends Sunday August 25 from 6-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima, Ohio is entrusted with the arrangements. Material contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans. The family thanks Mt. Washington Care Center and Hospice of Southwest Ohio for the wonderful care and services provided.
