Justin M. Welshhans, 17, of 702 West Southern Avenue, Columbiana, passed away at 1 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010 as a result of smoke inhalation from a house fire at his residence. Mr. Welshhans was born on February 6, 1993 in Weirton, West Virginia, the son of George Welshhans and Sandra Shaffer. Justin moved from Colliers, West Virginia to Columbiana three years ago. He was a student at Columbiana High School and Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, where he was enrolled in the public safety services tract. Mr. Welshhans attended The Columbiana Church of the Nazarene and The Greenford Christian Church. Justin loved animals, enjoyed weight lifting and working out and while he lived in West Virginia he had wrestled on the wrestling team at Follansbee Middle School. Justin was a very giving and helpful person. He often helped his neighbors carry firewood and shovel snow. Mr. Welshhans is survived by his father, George Welshhans of Columbiana, Ohio; his mother, Sandra Shaffer of Wheeling, West Virginia; his great-grandmother, Dorothy Sands of Followsbree, West Virginia; his grandfather, Fred Welshhans of Columbiana, Ohio; one sister, Breanna Shaffer of Wheeling, West Virginia; his uncle John (Gayle) Welshhans of Colliers, West Virginia; his aunt Chasity (Scott) Bias of Huntington, West Virginia. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the Columbiana Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jan Winnale officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service at the Columbiana Nazarene church on Thursday, March 18, 2010. Justin's father George is still hospitalized in St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown and their home is a total loss due to the fire.
