Obituary

Katherine Eileen 'Kay' Barth, 81 POLAND - Katherine Eileen 'Kay' Barth,81, passed away earlyWednesday morning, June 11 at her home surrounded by her family. Kay was born on April 22, 1933 in Youngstown, a daughter of Park and Mary (Bush) Lipp Sr. She graduated from Springfield High School and was a member of Gospel Baptist Church in Poland for over forty years. Kay married her high school sweetheart Donald Barth Sr. on July 16, 1954 at Struthers Baptist Tabernacle. Together they owned and operated Barth Farms, a staple fieldtrip location for many area schools. Kay was beloved by everyone who was blessed to know her. She had the voice of an angel and loved to serve the Lord through song, both in her church and at outreach services with her family. She enjoyed playing piano whenever she was called upon. She could play any song by ear and in any key which was greatly appreciated by the soloists she would accompany. She also served as an organist in her church for many years. Next to her love of God, Kay found her greatest joy in her love for her family. The love of her life was her husband, Don. Her children were blessed to have a mother who loved to have a house full of kids and never minded having extras at the supper table. She allowed them to have experiences that most mothers would never have considered, like having a monkey as a pet! Her house was always known as the fun place to be! Her grandchildren and great grandchildren will remember her incredible sense of humor and contagious laugh. There was nowhere they enjoyed more than Grandma's house! She could make up a game for everything and make even the mundane things fun! She spent hours in the kitchen passing along her love of cooking and baking to her grandkids, nieces and nephews. No matter how busy she was with business, church or community service, she always had time for those that she loved. It is the memory of all the special time she spent with each of her family that will live in their hearts forever. Kay leaves to cherish her precious memory her husband Donald, a daughter, Mari Mangino and her husband Mike of Edinburg, PA; three sons, Don Jr. and his wife Debbie Michigan, Paul and his wife Cindy of Poland, and Bob and his wife Sue of Poland; 16 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; a sister Carolyn Welsh of Scottsdale, AZ; and a brother, Park Lipp Jr. and his wife Jean of Grove City, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Phillip who passed away in 1990, her sister Darlene Brungard, and her brothers Lavelle and Donald Lipp. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14 at 11 a.m. at Gospel Baptist Church, 6235 Clingan Road, Poland, with Pastor Ron Royalty officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Gospel Baptist Church, 6235 Clingan Road, Poland, and also at 10 a.m. Saturday June 14, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Kay's memory to the MVI Hospice, 4891 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, OH 44505.
