L. Joann Gela, 82, formerly of Court Street, Columbiana, passed away at 10:55 p.m. on October 24, 2008 at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring. Mrs. Gela was born on November 25, 1925 in New Boston, Ohio, the daughter of Earl and Gladys (Murphy) Jones. Joann was employed at Salem Community Hospital as a surgical nurse and was employed in earlier years at Hutton Nursing Home and Dr. King's office in Columbiana. Joann was a member of the Columbiana Women's Club, three bridge clubs and a book club. Joann volunteered reading books on tape for the blind through 2005. Mrs. Gela was preceded in death on February 16, 1997 by her husband William "Bill" Gela, whom she married on August 22, 1947. Joann is survived by two daughters, Kathy Summers of Chicago, Christine Amos of Dallas; one son, Bill Gela of Chicago; two brothers, Dick Jones of Wooster, Jack Jones of New Springfield; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Mrs. Gela was preceded in death by one sister, Dolores and one brother, Bob Jones. There will be no services.
