Lowell Baz Wellman, 81, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015, at his home in Copeland Oaks after a long illness. Born in Youngstown in 1933, he was one of ten children born to Baz and Maggie Wellman. He graduated from North Lima High School in 1951, North Central College in 1955, and Evangelical Theological Seminary in 1957, where he earned a Master of Divinity. He pastored at Emmanuel United Brethren Church in Cleveland for six years, was a counselor for the deaf and hard of hearing at the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, worked at US Steel as a stationary engineer, and at Youngstown, Akron, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland thermal in the same capacity. One of his greatest loves was volunteering at Heartland Christian School, where he helped with renovations and maintained the boilers. His hobbies included studying books of theology and working on mechanical projects; he cultivated a lifelong interest in flying, earning his pilot's license in 1977. He loved gardening, and using his John Deere tractor. Lowell was ordained in the Anglican Church at the age of 78, and he last preached on Palm Sunday 2015. He is survived by his wife Janell Wellman, nee Twining, whom he married in 1956. He will be missed by his children, Kathy Holm, Margaret (Craig) Wade, and Steve (Corina) Wellman; nine grandchildren Laura Shirey, Chris Holm, Elisabeth Goehring, Emily Pritchard, Drew Wade, Nicole Wellman, Shane Wellman, Evan Wade, and Luke Holm; twelve great grandchildren Blake, Madeline, Adrianna, Daniel, Cana, Layla, Corinne, Jacob, Ryder, Audrey, Kenton and Ethan; and siblings Dorothy Smith, Louise Detwiler, Pete (Shirley) Wellman, Anna Detwiler, and Lonnie (Carolyn) Wellman. Lowell's sense of humor and warm personality were enjoyed by his entire family, and he will be greatly missed. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Rose Ockerman, Herman Wellman, Alice Weaver, and Ernestine Bush. He loved the Lord, his family, and his church. His family will remember him for his generous, helpful, and truly loving spirit. He can expect to hear, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Memorial contributions can be made to Heartland Christian School, 28 Pittsburgh St, Columbiana, OH 44408 and Christ the King Anglican Church, 202 E Park Ave, Columbiana, OH 44408.
