Margaret (Peg) Burkey, age 88, North Lima, OH, passed away at 8:55 pm Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Boardman, surrounded by her family following a brief illness. Mrs. Burkey, the daughter of John and Grace Bregar, was born on August 18, 1923 in Youngstown, OH. Peg graduate from North Lima High School in 1941 and later from Youngstown Business College. She started to work at the age of fourteen and worked at various companies in the area as an auditor and bookkeeper. She most recently worked as a school bus driver for South Range Schools for sixteen years and served as a Beaver Township Trustee for twelve years before her retirement. Peg was a lifelong member of Mount Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, on the Women's Guild and most recently as a volunteer for the Church Community Council (3Cs) distributing food to the needy of our community. She was also a volunteer worker for the church's rummage sales for over forty years raising funds for various organizations. Peg was also a past member of North Lima Grange, Columbiana Eastern Star, White Shrine of Youngstown, Aut-Mori Caldron Drill Team, Canfield Ameranth and the Mahoning County Trustees and Clerks Association. She had also been a member of the Pandora Rebekah Lodge 734 in Columbiana since September of 1941 where she held various positions and was serving as the Noble Grand and District Representative. Peg will be most remembered for her dedication and generosity to others. Whether it was family, friends or her community she always put the well-being of others first in her life. She truly lived to serve others. Margaret is survived by her children; one daughter, Nancy Kilmer of Williamsburg, VA and four sons, Daniel (Carri) Burkey of Greenford, Bob (Linda) Burkey of Salem, Wayne (Cindy) Burkey of North Lima, and Randy (Dawn) Burkey also of North Lima. Survivors also include two brothers; Donald "Gene" (Joan) Bregar of North Lima and Richard "Dick" (Thelma) Bregar of New Middletown and twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Services will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Mount Olivet United Church of Christ, North Lima, at 11:00 am with Rev. Melinda Q. Lacefield officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Sunday January 15, 2012 at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, North Lima, and one hour prior to the service at the church. A service will be conducted at 4 pm by the Rebekah Lodge following the afternoon calling hours at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima. In leiu of flowers the family requests that material contributions be made to the 3Cs care of Mount Olivet Church. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Shepherd of the Valley, West Blvd. for their loving care during her illness.
