Mary Elva Readshaw Dowd, went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2010. Mary was born in Strasburg, Ohio to C.F. and Elva Texter Readshaw on December 11, 1916. The family moved to Columbiana, Ohio in 1930. Mary was a graduate of Columbiana High School, a homemaker and avid baker, and a member of the American Legion Auxilliary. Mary was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana. She was active in Presbyterian Women, the Towasi Class, and sang in the choir for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John J. Dowd who passed away September 28, 2001. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Jane and her husband Joseph (Joe) Costanzo of Columbiana, Ohio; and a son, John (Jack) A. and his wife Jan Dowd of Lisbon, Ohio; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, JoAnn Bordenkircher of California; and a brother, William Readshaw of Sebring, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana with Rev. Scott Parker officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010 prior to the service at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that material gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Columbiana, Ohio or to the Hospice House, Poland, Ohio.
