Powers, 71 of 301 West Park Ave. Columbiana, Ohio passed away at 5:05 a.m. at his residence on Thursday, September 28, 2006. Mr. Powers was born on September 3, 1935 in Columbiana, Ohio, the son of Matthew and Gertrude Powers. He was a life-long resident. Matthew worked for 29 years at N.R.M. and then for 5 years at Portage Transformer of Youngstown, Ohio, as an electrician. He was a member of First Christian Church of Columbiana. He graduated from Columbiana High School in 1953 where he ran track and played basketball. He was an accomplished swimmer and diver off of the diving board. He is survived by his wife, the former Carol Brommer Powers, whom he married May 25, 1986. He is also survived by his mother Gertrude Powers of Columbiana; a daughter Colleen Thornton and her husband Charles of Paris, Kentucky, two sons Matthew Dennis Powers of Juneau, Alaska and Lance Powers and his wife Susan of Wooster, Ohio; a step-daughter Brenda Lance and her husband Rick of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania; a brother Milton (Mickey) Powers and his wife Ruth of Columbiana; nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter Bonnie and his father Matthew Powers. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30. 2006 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with Mr. Clarence Mansfield officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home on Saturday, September 30, 2006.
