Obituary

Mattie Ruth Walters, 83, of 925 Hartley Ave. Salem, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 2:40 p.m. at the Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem following an extended illness. Mrs. Walters was born on January 13, 1924 in Bingen, Arkansas, the daughter of Peter Luther and Binnie Reba Ramage Gosnell. Mattie moved to Salem in 1970 from Justice, IL. Mrs. Walters was a homemaker and had worked in a factory during W.W.II to support the war effort. In previous years Mattie attended the First Baptist Church of Salem. Mrs. Walters was a very talented seamstress, cook and baker and she also enjoyed singing. Mattie is survived by her husband, Billie H. Walters, whom she married October 27, 1940. Other survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Luker and her husband Phil of Thorsby, AL, twin daughters Jean Lendabarker and her husband Edwin of Aurora, IL and Janet Goehring and her husband David of Columbiana; a son, Benny H. Walters and his wife Kay of Burleson, TX; two sisters, Mrs. Rosalie Daniels of Ft. Smith, AR. and Mrs. Mary Sue Edmundson of Newman, IL; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by three brothers. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the First Christian Church in Columbiana with Mr. Len Derico officiating. Burial will be in Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. til 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Church. Family suggest that material tributes be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association 3695 Boardman-Canfield Rd. Suite 301B, Canfield, Ohio 44406. Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana handled the arrangements.
