Obituary

Auctioneer, Melvin D. Freeze, Sr. "Mel", 74, of Columbiana, OH, died at 5:02 p.m. Wednesday, the 8th of June at the Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, W.VA. He had been fighting cancer of the lungs. He was born March 29, 1937, in Wellsville, OH, the son of the late Vernon Freeze and Phillis Elliott. He was raised by his Grandmother Blanche Elliott, also deceased. Mel joined the U.S. Navy in 1955 and was discharged in 1966 at which time he started his own business selling antiques. At this time he also went to school for auctioneers and soon opened a successful business called Mels Auctions and Antiques. He operated in New England, Ohio and Florida. Mel followed this profession until his death. Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Magill Freeze and five children: two sons Frank & Melvin, Jr. and three daughters Patricia, Debora and Claudia. The time of a graveside service at the Columbiana Cemetery will be announced at a later date. Mel we miss you!
