Michael Gerard Ossoff, 54, passed away on the morning of Aug. 5, 2011, at the Hospice House in North Lima after a long battle with brain cancer. He was born in Franklin, Pa. on Jan. 17, 1957, the son of Theodore and Clara Ossoff. A 1975 graduate of Columbiana High School, Michael excelled in basketball, football, golf, and track. He graduated from Kent State University, Salem, where he played on the men's basketball team. For the past 31 years, Michael was the superintendent at Valley Golf Club, working along side his brother, owner(s) Ted, Jr., head golf professional and his sister-in-law Maryann. Michael was employed by the Columbiana Foundry, where he worked for 32 years. He also coached girl's and boy's basketball at Columbiana High School, girl's basketball at Leetonia High School, and girl's junior varsity at Heartland Christian School. Michael was a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, the Northeast Ohio Golf Course Superintendents Association, the Mahoning Valley Basketball Officials Association, and a referee with the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He played golf in the Wednesday Valley Beaver League. Michael is survived by his mother, Clara; a brother, Ted Jr. (Maryann) of Columbiana; and his twin sister, Michele (Forrest) Barber of Baldwyn, Miss. and his sister, Pamela (Bob) Rothermund of Morrow. He also leaves his two nephews, Robert and Kevin and a niece, Kay Rothermund, all of Morrow. He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore, who died August 1995. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, Columbiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, at the St. Jude Catholic Church, Columbiana.
