Obituary

COLUMBIANA - Michael J. Siembida, 73, passed away early Friday morning, September 4 at his home in Columbiana. Michael was born on February 20, 1942, in Youngstown, a son of Michael R. and Sophie A. (Lyda) Siembida. A Cardinal Mooney High School graduate, he would also attain a carpenter apprenticeship. Michael proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict with the 1st Calvary Division, the most decorated combat division in the U.S. Army. He was a hard working member of Millwright & Pile Driver Local 1090 for 54 years. Mike belonged to the American Legion Post 290 of Columbiana and the VFW Post 5532 in Washingtonville. He enjoyed farming, and going fishing and camping with his grandson and brothers. He also loved watching his granddaughter horseback ride. Michael also was a member of the St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana. He is survived by his wife, the former Marianne Semperger, whom he married September 23, 1967; one daughter Andrea (Scott) Savage of Leetonia; one son Dan (Lillie) Siembida of East Liverpool; two grandchildren Emily and Garrett; seven brothers George (Gail) of Columbiana, Frank of Lisbon, Tad of Leetonia, Tom (Kathy) of Leetonia, John of Poland, Carl (Carol) of North Jackson, and Marty (Jennifer) of Lordstown; and three sisters Mary McCarty of Lisbon, Carol of Lisbon and Margie (Richard) Witmer of Columbiana. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 180 7th Street, Columbiana with the Fr. Christopher Cicero officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8 at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana, OH, and also from 9-9:45 a.m.on Wednesday September 9 at the funeral home. American Legion Post 290 will conduct military honors at Columbiana Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made in Michael's memory to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, OH 44512.
