Mildred (Millie) C. Welsh, 89, of North Lima, passed away at her home at 11:15 p.m. Sunday evening following an extended illness. Millie was born July 8, 1921 in Youngstown, OH. The daughter of the late William H. and Elsie B. Carr Crosby. A long time resident of North Lima, Millie graduated from North Lima H.S. in 1939. After graduating high school she enrolled at St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1942 as a registered nurse. Mrs. Welsh later worked as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital in the 1960's. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet U.C.C for 75 years. In 1951 Mildred and a friend started the North Lima Kindergarten Program in what is now the Old North Lima School building. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Columbiana. She also became an avid roller skater after her retirement. Millie married her high school sweetheart Robert Welsh, July 21, 1943. She was preceeded in death by Robert, who died February 1, 1995. Mildred was the last of a family of five. Two sisters J. Naomi Herrick and Mary Moyer preceeded her in death and two brothers William and Robert Crosby and one grandson. Millie is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Rex) Muro, Long Island, NY, Cindy (Hank) Rutland, Columbus, OH, and Roberta (Bob) Jones, Austintown, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28th at Mt. Olivet U.C.C. in North Lima, with Reverend Jerry Kruse officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday April 27, 2011 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima and one hour prior to the service on Thursday April 28, 2011 at the Mt. Olivet U.C.C.
