Obituary

Mildred Louise Geiger, 97, formerly of Columbiana was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 16, 2015 at Grace Woods Assisted Living Center in Salem. Born in East Palestine on October 25, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie May Henderson Welch. She worked in retail shoe sales for 28 years at Allen's in Columbiana and several Lustig's outlets where she developed many lasting friendships. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald W. Geiger in 1983, a sister Wilma Hulton and a brother Lester Welch. She is survived by her sister Lois Colella, two children, Gary W. Geiger and his wife Bonnie of Beaver, PA and daughter Gayle Shura of Reston, VA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Sunil Shura, Douglas W. Geiger and his wife Christine and Diane E. Morgan and her husband James; four great grandchildren, Jessica, Geoffrey, Elyse and Craig; and also several nieces and nephews. Mildred enjoyed playing cards, bingo, reading and cooking. Baking was her passion and she will always be remembered for her many Christmas and birthday treats. Christmas was special to Mildred and she created many fond memories for those around her. She was a long-standing member of Calvary United Methodist Church in North Lima where she served in the Sunday school department and was a charter member of the Friendship Service Circle. Mildred was a member of the American Legion Post 290 Auxiliary for over 20 years, and much enjoyed their mutual support and companionship. The family extends their thanks to the staff at Grace Woods Senior Living Center in Salem for their compassion and caring. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana with Pastor Duane Quesenberry officiating. Friends will be received at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. The family has entrusted Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio with the arrangements for their loved one.
