Littler Redick Dyke
May 1, 1915 — Aug 20, 2014
POLAND - Mildred Grace Littler Redick Dyke, 99, formerly of New Springfield, passed away at Hospice House early Wednesday morning, August 20. Mildred was born on May 1, 1915 in Kenton, OH, a daughter of Walter Benson and Esta Maud Cessna Littler. The family moved to Colebrook Township in Ashtabula County in 1918. She attended Colebrook School for 11 years, and was a 1933 graduate of Wayne High School. Mildred would later attend the former Youngstown University and Youngstown State University during 1959-1972. Mildred married Lawrence R. (Dick) Redick in Williamsfield, OH on January 2, 1944; he would pass away on October 1, 1952. Her second marriage was to Hugh Dyke in Youngstown on February 1, 1953 after being introduced to him by her current minister. He predeceased her on May 27, 1971. She was employed by Hathaway Bakeries as the solitary female driver and salesperson from 1942-1945 where she met her first husband, moved to B & C Appliances in Boardman as bookkeeper and clerk from 1951-1959, and retired from Youngstown State University Bookstore as Assistant Manager and Textbook Purchasing Agent where she was employed from 1960-1983. Mildred attended Colebrook United Methodist Church and OH and PA Christian Church, as well as being a member of the Evangelical United Brethren of New Springfield which later became Trinity United Methodist Church (since 1966). She was very active in her church as a Sunday School teacher, a Bible Study class leader, served in several various offices, was on the PPR Committee, was an Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and served on the Administrative Council as well as a Lay Leader. In 1991 she made the decision to sell her farm and moved to Park Vista Retirement Community in Youngstown where she happily made her home, at first totally independent, later moving to assisted living, and in 2008 moved to nursing. Park Vista proved to be an excellent decision for her. She was an avid reader, particularly of the Bible. Her favorite verse was John 3:16, which she noted in every greeting card she sent to family and friends. Mildred also enjoyed reading mysteries, detective stories, and westerns, with large collections of Agatha Christie, Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, and loved to travel. Her family was very important to her through all her years. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her nieces Janet Hixson, Linda (Henry) Lipps, and Gail (Jim) Piper as well as her nephew Rick (Michelle) Nichols. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, brothers M. Ralph (Mildred) Littler and Buryl A. (Bertha) Littler, sister Clara (Norman) Nichols, nieces Kay (Don) DeWeese, Judy Perkins, and Claudia (Michael) Fratt, and nephews Myron Littler and Larry (Ceci) Nichols. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, with Pastor Patricia G. Allen-Lintela officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be made in Mildred's memory to New Springfield Trinity United Methodist Church, 2427 Columbiana Rd, New Springfield, OH 44443. Internment will take place at Colebrook South Cemetery where she will be placed next to her parents. The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima, Ohio has been entrusted with the arrangements.
