Mildred L. Snyder, 96, of New Middletown, Ohio, passed away at 5:05 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2008 at Clairebridge in Austintown, where she had resided the past six months. Mrs. Snyder was born November 29, 1911 in North Lima, the daughter of Jonas and Laura (Longanecker) Horst. Mildred was a life long area resident. She was a 1930 graduate of North Lima High School and a 1932 graduate of Kent State University. Mildred was a retired school teacher. She had taught at Canfield, North Lima and Springfield school districts as an elementary teacher and was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Snyder was a member of the Struthers Baptist Tabernacle. Mildred also enjoyed reading, baking and gardening in earlier years. Mildred was preceded in death on December 8, 1998 by her husband, Norman A. Snyder, whom she married December 25, 1935. Other survivors include three daughters, Carolyn (Charles) Barth of Enon Valley, Pennsylvania, Hazel Calvin of New Middletown, Ohio, Mary Ann (Garry) Butt of New Middletown, Ohio; three sisters, Elva Huffman of Columbiana, Kathryn VanDyke of Columbiana, Hazel Kurtz of Hartville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Snyder was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with Rev. Garry Butt and Rev. Tim Reist officiating. Burial will be in Zion Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2008 and one hour prior to the funeral from 10-11 a.m. at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima. The family suggests that material tributes be made to a charity of the donors' choice.
