NEW SPRINGFIELD – Mina N. Burkey, 82, of New Springfield, passed away at her home unexpectedly Tuesday evening, March 18.

Mina was born on August 13, 1931 in Petersburg, a daughter of John and Mary (Nichols) Valentine. She graduated from Springfield Local High School in 1949, and was a lifetime member of the Petersburg Presbyterian Church. She married Ted Burkey on her birthday in 1950.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. An avid reader, she would especially enjoy mysteries with a touch of romance. Most of all, she loved to take care of her family and those close to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted who passed away in September of 2008, and her daughter Sherrie.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Petersburg Presbyterian Church, 13996 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, with the Reverend Julieann Joy officiating.
