Obituary

NEW MIDDLETOWN - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 24 at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima with Pastor Ralph Edwards officiating for Ralph Waggaman, 96, who passed away Tuesday morning at Masternick Memorial Healthcare Center. Mr. Waggaman was born on April 17, 1917 in Youngstown, the son of Daniel and Harriet (Green) Waggaman, and was a lifelong area resident. A graduate of Boardman High School, Ralph would later be inducted in the Boardman High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his excellence in sports. "Waggs" entered the United States Army during World War II. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and earned a Purple Heart for his exemplary performance. After returning home, he owned and operated two Standard Oil Stations in the area - one on Market St. and Rt. 224 and the other at Market St. and Western Reserve Rd. He was also a proud member of the VFW. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his five daughters, Margaret Powell of North Carolina, Sandra (Robert) Stevens of New Middletown, Joyce (Donald) McDonough of Youngstown, Linda (Ben) Vernon of North Carolina, and Barbara Barber of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren, Cindy Stevens, James Stevens, Kristin Blanton, Melissa McKendrick, Stephanie Barber, Jack Thomas, Ben Vernon III, Ann Stanley, Don McDonough Jr., Michael McDonough, James Powell, and Nicole Dawson; 20 great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law Molly Hoover. Besides his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his first wife V. Louise Mortimer, who passed away in 1952; his second wife Ruth Ellen Moon, who passed away in 2000; son-in-law Russell Thomas Sr., grandson Cary Vernon, his sisters Veda Cole, Helen Wood, Geneva Vitullo, Gertrude Smith, and Mary Waggaman; and brothers Charles and Lavern Waggaman. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima, two hours prior to the service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Whispering Pines and Masternick Memorial Healthcare Center for the kind attention and care they showed Ralph during his time with them. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in North Lima. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Mr. Waggaman's memory to Southern Care Hospice, 5401 Ashley Circle, Suite E, Austintown, OH 44515.
