Obituary

Raymond L. Kurtz, 86, of Salem, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 3, at Salem Community Hospital. He was born on Oct. 15, 1925, in Salem, a son of Earl and Mollie (Lehman) Kurtz, and was a lifelong area resident. A 1943 graduate of Greenford High School, Raymond had worked at Mullins Mfg. for 28 years. He had also owned and operated Raymond Kurtz Farm. He was a member of the Leetonia Mennonite Church, having served in various positions throughout the years. Raymond had also served on the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years. Raymond leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Marie (Detrow) Kurtz, whom he married on June 17, 1950; a daughter, Kathleen (Kurtz) Lehman of West Liberty; three sons, William (Vickie) of Cumberland, Ind., Larry (Lucie) of Lancaster, Pa. and Alan (Carmen) of Plymouth, Ind.; his sister, Anna Marie Kurtz of Salem; two brothers, Wilbur (Ruby) and Edgar (Lola Ann), both of Salem; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Leetonia Mennonite Church. A private graveside service will be held Sunday at the Midway Mennonite Cemetery for the immediate family. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Leetonia Mennonite Church, with Pastor Phillip Slabaugh officiating.
