Obituary

Richard John Beck, 81, of Columbiana, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2012 at Vibra Hospital, Boardman, OH. Mr. Beck, the son of Russell McKnight and Lois Pearl (Miller) Beck, was born on November 20, 1930 in Poland, OH. Richard moved to the Guilford Lake area and began his education in a one room school house (Chandler). He later moved to Columbiana in 1936 where he graduated from Columbiana High School in 1948. In 1954 Mr. Beck founded Beck's Appliance Service later known as Becks Floor Covering and Becks Home Decorating and worked there until 1988. After retirement Richard continued to work from his home. Mr. Beck was a member of the Ohio National Guard and obtained a ranking of Master Sergeant. He was an active member of Columbiana Kiwanis Club and past president. Richard was an active member of First Christian Church which he had attended since he was eight years old. He was baptized in 1941 and was a member of the U & I class. Richard served as assistant superintendent, superintendent, deacon, elder, church clerk, trustee, chairman of building and grounds, a Sunday school teacher, and a youth worker in the Happy Day Express. He also taught Wednesday night Bible study for new Christians. He was very involved in mission work. Richard is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Ross) Beck, whom he married August 11, 1951. Survivors also include one son, Kenneth (Mary Lou) Beck of Grayson, KY, three daughters; Margie (Doug) Redford of Cincinnati, OH, Marcy (Dave) Patton of Columbiana, OH, and Karen (Steve) Ullom of East Liverpool, OH. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by two brothers; Ralph and Wilbur Beck. Services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at First Christian Church, Columbiana, at 11:00 a.m. with Ministers Clarence Mansfield and John Reed officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at First Christian Church, Columbiana. Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home of Columbiana has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorial contributions will be made to First Christian Church of Columbiana.
