COLUMBIANA – Richard E. "Rick" DeLauter, 70, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 28 at his home in Columbiana.

Rick was born on January 5, 1947, in Youngstown, a son of Roy and Virginia M. (Smith) DeLauter. A Cardinal Mooney High School graduate, Rick proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

He worked as an engineer for the Conrail, which later became the Norfolk-Southern Railroad, for 42 years. Rick belonged to the American Legion Post 290 of Columbiana and was a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. Rick also was a member of the St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana.

He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Petro, whom he married May 1, 1971; one daughter Melissa (Robbie Swedin) DeLauter and one son David (Beth) DeLauter, all of Marysville, OH; five grandchildren Kaitlyn, Dylan, Nathan, Chase and Evelyn; three sisters Sue (Jim) Kerr, Ginny Lee DeLauter, and Linda (John) Yencha; and his dog, Molly Precious.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 3 at noon at St. Jude Catholic Church, 180 7th Street, Columbiana with the Fr. Christopher Cicero officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of mass on Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made in Rick's memory to St. Jude Parish Capital Campaign 2016-2019, 180 7th Street, Columbiana, OH 44408.
