Richard Leo Rice died at the age of 80, June 4, 2008 at Parkside at 12:10 p.m. He was born May 25, 1928 in Columbiana, the son of the late Leo Franklin and Emma Blosser Rice and was a lifelong area resident. He served as a Corporal in the Army for two years in 1950. He was a member of the American Legion Benjamin Firestone Post 290. He had been employed at Franklin Furniture and Poland Country Side for 16 years, and Sheeley's furniture for 26 years until his retirement. A favorite hobby of his included restoring Ford Mustangs of the late 1960's. In his retirement years he worked with his late brother Lester Rice who owned and operated Rice Upholstery. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture for family and friends. He is survived by his wife Donna Luedna Dicken Rice whom he married on April 30, 1956; his three children, son Richard Wayne (Carol) Rice, and daughters, Christal (Wayne) Bonsall, and Madawna (Jeff) Bacho all of Columbiana. He was the grandfather of five, Amanda and Amber Bonsall, Jill and Lorin Dickinson, and Richard Jacob Rice; four sisters, Mrs. Carl (Anna Mary) Lehman of Fortuna, MO., Mrs. John (Betty) Bergey of Hesston, KS, Mrs. Elbert (Emma Jean) Heatwole of Rocky Ford, CO., Mrs. Nicola (Carol) Katf of FL.; four brothers, John, Homer, Glen, and James Rice of Oregon. He is preceded in death by two siblings, Mrs. Roy (Verna) Rupert, and Lester Rice. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 9, 2008 at Seederly-Mong and Beck funeral home in Columbiana with Rev. Dr. Robert Joy officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Firestone Cemetery where the American Legion Benjamin Firestone Post 290 of Columbiana will conduct a military honors service. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Sunday June 8, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour before services Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbiana Public Library or the American Legion Post 290.
