Obituary

Robert J. Delvaux, 84, formerly of New Springfield, passed away Tuesday, January 10, at St. Mary's Alzheimer Center in Columbiana following a five-year illness. Robert, affectionately known as "R.J," was born in Youngstown on October 7, 1927, a son of Conrad and Mary (Costello) Delvaux, and had lived in the New Springfield area most of his life before moving to Columbiana. R.J. was a graduate of Choffin Career and Technical Center, specializing in machine trades. He had worked for the P & L.E. Railroad, running routes from Struthers to the yard in Conway, Pa. He had also worked for National Refactories, earlier known as Kaiser Aluminum, of Columbiana for over 25 years. He had also served as shop president while employed there. Bob belonged to Teamster's Local 377 of Youngstown. He had also served his country in the US Army. He was a huge fan of NASCAR and Indy Racing. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Thomas (Judy Ann) and Timothy (Wendy Ann), both of New Springfield; 6 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann (Driscoll) Delvaux, whom he married on January 21, 1950, and died on February 25, 1975; a son, Robert Jr., who died February 9, 1989; his brothers, Carl, Albert, and Paul; his sister, Rita Costello Klingensmith; and foster-sisters, Gladys Parish, Dorothy Jardine, Grace Wilson, and Florence Shipley. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with Pastor Ry Torhan officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
