Obituary

COLUMBIANA - Robert W. Segesman, 90, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, March 26 at his home. Mr. Segesman was born on December 10, 1925 in Columbiana, a son of Herman and Mildred (Myers) Segesman. A life-long area resident, he graduated Columbiana High School in 1944 and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Along with his twin brother Richard, Robert was deployed overseas where both fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Robert was injured; unfortunately, his brother Richard was killed. Robert was very proud of the Purple Hearts they both received for their involvement in this battle. Robert attended The Ohio State University for two years, and was employed as a structural draftsman at Republic Steel and Vulcraft, both located in Youngstown. An active member of First Christian Church, Robert served as Deacon and worked with the church trustees. He was a Ruritan and belonged to American Legion Post 290 in Columbiana, where he had served as Sargent of Arms for the Color Guard. The most important things in his life were his family, his church, and his community. Robert leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife Betty, whom he married March 28, 1948 and would have celebrated 68 years of marriage this year; three daughters, Marsha Gordon and her husband Robert of Columbiana, Vickie Wagner and her husband Jim of Salem, and Robin Woods and her husband Jon of Columbiana; five grandchildren Brett (Madeline) Barnhouse, Gretchen Barnhouse, Melanie Scott, and Kurtis and Katie Woods; and two great-grandchildren Nicholas and Emily Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, and his aunt Ellen Myers. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 29 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 39 Cherry St., Columbiana with Pastor John Reed officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 10:00 a.m. at the church. American Legion Post 290 will conduct military honors at the Columbiana Cemetery chapel following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Robert's memory to First Christian Church, 39 Cherry St., Columbiana, OH 44408 or to American Legion Post 290, 44403 OH-14, Columbiana, OH 44408. The family has entrusted Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio with the arrangements for their loved one. Family and friends are invited to visit www.seederly-mongandbeck.com to sign the guestbook or send private condolences.
