Obituary

Robert Lee “Bob” Shimer, 69, of Snow Camp, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at his home.

Bob was born on March 6, 1957, in Salem, Ohio, to Herbert Glenn Shimer and Thelma Mary (Guy) Shimer. He spent much of his life in North Carolina and had a long career with Procter & Gamble, where he worked for 33 years as a technician in Browns Summit before retiring.

Bob was known for his sharp sarcasm and irreverent sense of humor. He rarely missed an opportunity for a joke or a well-timed wisecrack, and had a knack for making people laugh even when they were the target of the joke. He was equally straightforward with his children, Misty, Bobby, and Richard. He wasn't one for empty praise, which made the pride he expressed for their accomplishments all the more meaningful.

Bob loved riding his Harley, playing poker, and golfing. One of his favorite places to spend time was the Moose Lodge in Eden. He enjoyed watching NASCAR (especially Jeff Gordon) and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns. He also loved country music, Jeff Foxworthy, Jean-Claude Van Damme, York Peppermint Patties, and a cold Budweiser or a Crown & Coke.

Bob is survived by his three children, Misty Hayes (née Shimer), Robert “Bobby” Shimer II, and Richard Shimer; eight grandchildren; and his sister, Beverly Reynolds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Thelma Shimer, and his two older brothers, Herbert “Butch” Shimer and Raymond Shimer.

A chapel service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, in the Stick Chapel at Columbiana Cemetery.

In accordance with his wishes, Bob will be laid to rest near his parents.
