Obituary

Robert S. Hill Sr., 83, of 101 N. West St., stepped over into glory Wednesday, August 3, at 1:10 p.m. Robert was born June 7, 1928 in Salem , a son of Paul W. and Treva (Albright) Hill. He had resided in Columbiana since 1965. A 1946 graduate of Springfield Local High School , Robert had attended Youngstown State University for one year and served in the US Navy during WWII. He was employed by Ohio Edison, Boardman office, as a general foreman for 32 years. He had more recently worked in the hardware department of Sears for 19 years, retiring in 2008. Robert was a member of the Christ Church of Boardman and former member and deacon of the First Christian Church in Columbiana. Robert served as an Elder Emeritus, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school at both churches. A member of Blue Lodge #417, Robert was a 32nd Degree Mason. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite of Youngstown. Robert loved music, playing saxophone in both his high school band and the Dick Keating Band. He was also an avid artist, specializing in landscapes and woodworking. Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Carol L. Smith, whom he married July 5, 1952; two daughters, Robin (Gary) Thaxton of Jefferson and Ginger (Matt) Mrofchak of Columbiana; his son Robert (Lynne) Hill, Jr. of Indian Shores, Fla.; his grandchildren, Sean (Megan) Ferrall, Rick and Tyler Thaxton, and Cory Mrofchak; and his great-grandchildren, Sean II and Evelyn Ferrall. Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 at the First Christian Church in Columbiana with the Ministers Clarence Mansfield and John Selders officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at the Columbiana Cemetery where the American Legion Post 290 will perform military honors. Arrangements are being handled by the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana.
