Ronald H. Grate Sr. 67, of 9733 Woodworth Road, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown from complications of emphysema. Mr. Grate had been in the hospital for one day. Ronald was born Jan. 21, 1939 in Pennsylvania, the son of Howard and Ruth McDonald Grate. Mr. Grate moved to the Youngstown area in his youth and had resided locally ever since. He was a bus driver for the Boardman School District for 15 years and had also owned and operated J&R Nursery for 25 years. Ronald was a member of the Western Reserve Baptist Church in Boardman. Ronald had served in the U.S. Army for two years. Mr. Grate is survived by his wife, the former Joanne Wilson. They were married March 1, 1985. Other survivors include his mother, Ruth Grate of South Carolina; a daughter, Rochelle Cole of North Lima; a son, Douglas Cole and his wife Jennifer of Dayton; and three grandchildren, Kassie, Olivia and Ethan.
