COLUMBIANA – Ronald E. LaLonde Sr., 84, passed away Thursday morning, October 15 at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. LaLonde was born on May 13, 1931 in Hibbing, MN, a son of Edward and Zelda (Hennemann) LaLonde. He earned a B.S. in Minerology, and a M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Michigan. He proudly served our country during the Korean War by joining the U.S. Army. Among places of employment, Ron worked at General Refractories as Quality Control Supervisor and Bessemer Cement as the Chief Chemist. He was very civic-minded and belonged to the Columbiana Planning Commission from January 2005 – December 2014; was a council member and council president from January 1974 – December 1977; was a former Columbiana Jaycees president; and a former Columbiana Rotary president. He also gave of his time as a Lecter at St. Jude Catholic Church. Ron leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife of 62 years, the former Patricia Norlock, whom he married September 6, 1953; two daughters, Kathy Barth and her husband Barry of Boardman, Wendy LaLonde and her fiancé Frank Skedel of Aurora; one son Ronald "Rusty" LaLonde Jr. of Statesville, NC; eight grandchildren Shane Champney, and Benjamin Barth, Daniel Barth, Alex Pancake, Michael LaLonde, Christopher LaLonde, and Rachel LaLonde; one great-grandchild Grace Parobek-Kinsley; a sister Jill Abbott and a brother John LaLonde. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 17 at 12:30 p.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana with Father Christopher Cicero officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Francis Turocy and the Salem Visiting Nurses Association for all their care and attention shown to Ron. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Ron's memory to the Columbiana Public Library, 332 N. Middle Street, Columbiana, OH 44408. The family has entrusted Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio with the arrangements for their loved one.
