Roy E.
Barnes
Feb 24, 1927 — Sep 14, 2014
COLUMBIANA - Roy E. Barnes, 87, passed away late Sunday evening at his home. Roy was born on February 24, 1927 in Belpre, a son of Roy Earl and Alpha (Grady) Barnes. He moved with his family to the area in 1936, and joined the Navy during WWII. He attended Leetonia High School and graduated from the Salem Police Academy and Canfield Vocational School for Diesel Mechanics. He worked at Valley Industrial Trucking and Syro Steel, which is now Trinity Industries, as a mechanic for many years. He also worked for the Canfield Fair Police for 34 years. He enjoyed traveling, especially spending the winters with his wife in Bradenton, FL., boating and restoring old cars. But most of all he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his pug, Gomer III. Roy leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 69 years, the former Alice Wellman; daughter Linda (Arland) Hixson of New Middletown; sons Richard (Roberta McCullough) Barnes of Salem and Terry (Mary) Barnes of Girard; sisters Sue (William) Reynolds, Althea Crowl, and Donna (Ray) Lawrence, all of Lisbon; brothers Jack (Dottie) of Oregon and Don Ray of Salem; five grandsons, Chad, J.P., Jeremy (Jessica), Joshua (Cat), and Joseph; and six great-grandchildren, Logan, Alice, Adison, Tanner, Noah, and Maddox; as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death his parents, a sister Yneka Jane, and a brother Gene. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests material contributions may be made in Roy's memory to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St, Boardman, OH 44512. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice for making Roy's final days comfortable, and to Dr. Richard Simmons for the wonderful care he provided. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 17 at 11 a.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana, OH 44408. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Columbiana Cemetery. The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio is entrusted with the arrangements. Family and friends are invited to visit www.seederly-mongandbeck.com to sign the guestbook or send private condolences.
