Obituary

Ruth Alverta Ackman, 92, of Columbiana, Ohio, passed away at 7:54 a.m. on October 6, 2008 at Salem Community Hospital from an apparent heart attack. Mrs. Ackman was born on August 29, 1916 in New Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of Raymond Sheely and Alverta B. Crum. After the death of her mother, her father remarried Sophia Geisman, who raised her as her own daughter. Ruth was a life long area resident. She was employed in earlier years at Sheely's Furniture as a custodian for ten years. From 1985-1992 Ruth was a sales clerk at Victorian Treasures in Columbiana. Mrs. Ackman was a member of the First Christian Church in Columbiana, where she served on the decorating committee. Ruth also enjoyed growing flowers and feeding the birds. Mrs. Ackman was preceded in death on August 19, 1962 by her husband Raymond Frederick Ackman, whom she married on March 4, 1939. Ruth is survived by two daughters, Donna (Willard) Wolfe of Columbiana and Deloris (Bill) Arthurs of Columbiana; three sisters, Marie (James) Yost of New Springfield, Ethel Tompkins of Columbus and Twylah (Andrew) Schmidt of Poland; one brother, Olin Sheely of Poland; four grand children and ten great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by one brother, Ross Sheely and one great-granddaughter. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Columbiana with Mr. Len Derico and Mr. Clarence Mansfield officiating. Burial will be in the Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at the church prior to the funeral.
