Ruth L. Shingleton, 75, of 210 Union St. Columbiana, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Sunday afternoon, December 30, 2007 following a brief illness. Ruth was born on November 13, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Harold and Mabel Moon Jessop. Ruth moved to Columbiana from Toledo in the 1940's. She married Leroy A. Shingleton on May 16, 1953 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbiana where she played the Hand Bells and was active in the United Methodist Women. Ruth was past-president and vice-president of the UMW and she also was the Acolyte Co-coordinator. Mrs. Shingleton also played the Hand Bells at the Salem United Methodist Church for the "Peace Ringers". She enjoyed making candy and baking decorative cakes for family and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband on June 25, 1999. Mrs. Shingleton is survived by two daughters Wanda Dunn and her husband John of Seville, Ohio and Pat Lanterman and her husband Wayne of Leetonia; a son Dan Shingleton and his wife Debbi of Columbiana; four sisters Violet Pease of San Diego, CA, Wilma Esenwein of Columbiana, Margie McIntosh and her husband Bill of Columbiana and Judy Kolcun of San Diego, CA; three brothers Richard Jessop of St. Petersburg, FL, Kenneth Jessop and his wife Suzie of Ocala, Florida and David Jessop of Columbiana; seven grandchildren Amy Jo, Matthew, Tony, Kevin, Jennifer, Jessie and Shayne; three great-grandchildren Isaac, Taylor and Kaitlyn. Ruth was preceded in death by four brothers Donald Jessop, Tom Jessop, Edward Jessop and Willard Jessop. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Columbiana with Rev. Kenneth Kelley officiating. Burial will be held in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the church. In lieu of flowers, family suggests material tributes be made to the Peace Ringers First United Methodist Church Salem, Ohio or the Columbiana United Methodist Women.
