Obituary

COLUMBIANA - Samuel L. Tharp, 92, passed away at his home early Wednesday morning, November 5. Samuel was born on July 18, 1922 in Rogersville, PA, a son of Samuel Leroy and Luella (Cummins) Tharp. He was a graduate of Rogersville High School, and served his country by joining the US Army during WWII. He was part of the Signal Core and saw action at D-Day and Battle of the Bulge. He was a self-taught musician who enjoyed playing string instruments as well as the harmonica. Samuel married the former Louise Murphy July 29, 1949; she passed away May 5, 2013. He was employed by Main Street Motors for 49 years as the mechanic. He was a long-time member of the First Christian Church, where he served as usher and deacon. He leaves to cherish his precious memory three sons, Gary (Sandra) Tharp, John (Yvonne) Tharp, and Dan Tharp, all of Columbiana; five grandchildren, Curtis (Tawny), Shonna, Rebekka (Brendan), Corey, and Eric; and five great grandchildren, Ronan, Kyla, Canice, Joshua, and Olivia. Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Louise, two brothers Paul and Donald and a sister Clara. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8 at 3:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 39 Cherry Street, Columbiana, with Pastor John Reed officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8 from 1-3 p.m. two hours prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests material contributions may be made in Samuel's memory to First Christian Church, 357 N. Main St., Columbiana, OH 44408.
