Sophia J. Gostey, 91, of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away at 4:55 p.m. on October 19, 2008 at Austin Woods. Mrs. Gostey was born on September 9, 1917 in Beckley, West Virginia, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Horvath) Mondell. Sophia resided in Poland for the last twenty years after moving here from Butler, Pennsylvania. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman. Mrs. Gostey was preceded in death on March 4, 1985 by her husband Anthony R. Gostey, whom she married on July 3, 1933. Sophia is survived by one daughter, Eileen (Kenneth) Riley of Boardman; one son, Robert (Donna) Gostey of Canfield; one sister, Goldie (Steve) Daniels of McKeesport, Pennsylvania; one brother, Elmer Mondell of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Robert Riley, Lori (Scott) Riley Foss, Laura (Dennis) Gostey Parise, Mark (Erica) Gostey; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew E. Foss, Justin R. Riley, Brandon M. Riley, Alec William Parise, Olivia Paige Parise, Nathan Robert Gostey, Emma Lauren Gostey and many nieces and nephews. Sophia was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Locktosh, Velma Barone; one brother, Joseph Mondell; and one grandson, Robert Aaron Gostey. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman with Rev. Philip E. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Green Haven Mausoleum. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima and from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman.
