BOARDMAN – Thomas W. Hoffman Sr., 72, of Boardman, passed away at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center Tuesday morning, March 11, surrounded by his family.
Tom was born on July 7, 1941 in Salem, a son of Myron and Audrey (Fletcher) Hoffman. He attended Springfield High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force when he felt called to duty during the US – Cuban crisis of the early 1960s. He would be honorably discharged when he was shot during the Bay of Pigs Invasion.
Tom married the former Alice Beedham January 9, 1982 and recently celebrated 32 years of marriage. He was employed by Tajon as an over the road driver, and later worked for Browning Ferris Industries as a heavy equipment operator, from which he retired.
Mr. Hoffman enjoyed working on small engines. Tom was instrumental in forming the neighborhood block watch and had been active with it for the past five years. He never missed his coffee in the morning with his buddies.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife Alice; four sons, Thomas Jr. (fiancée Kim Wolf) of Salem, David of Canfield, Scott of Sharpsville and Douglas (Bernadette) of Boardman; five grandchildren, Tori, Taylor, Sara, Megan, and Ian, brother Donald Hoffman Sr. (Kathleen) of North Lima, two nephews, Donald Jr. and Christopher Hoffman, and his special 'adopted' grandkids Bruce and Erika Barnes and Josh and Elizabeth Robbins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, with Pastor Ralph Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13 from 5-7 p.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima, and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the medical research fund of the donor's choice in Tom's memory.
The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima, Ohio has been entrusted with the arrangements.
