Veronica "Vernie" Semics, 90, of Poland, Ohio, passed away at 11:25 a.m. on September 25, 2008 at the Hampton Woods Nursing Home. Vernie was born on January 22, 1918 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Steve and Theresa (Stayduhar) Srnec. Vernie was a hairdresser for Semics Beauty Shop that she owned and operated in McDonald and Lisbon for 40 years. She was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman, a member of the over 55 club and a member of Lodge 66 of Youngstown. Mrs. Semics was preceded in death on September 2, 1994 by her husband Pete Semics, whom she married on January 15, 1942. Vernie is also survived by one son, Gary (Cindy) Semics of Lisbon; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Secedi of Murrieta, California and Josephine Misko of Poland, Ohio. Vernie was preceded in death on December 26, 1997 by her son Peter Semics and by four brothers and two sisters. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman with Rev. Philip E. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2008 prior to the mass at the church.
