NEW SPRINGFIELD - Wayne A. Bacon, 71, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 17 at his home in New Springfield surrounded by his family. He fought the fight until he was called home. Wayne was born on January 2, 1945, in Youngstown, a son of the late Darrel and Thelma (Snyder) Bacon. He graduated from Springfield Local High School in 1963. Wayne married the former Barbara Vinkler on October 30, 1965. Wayne drove a dump truck early in his career; later he became a farmer and involved in the fertilizer business. He was the owner and operator of Green Meadows Soil Service, and co-owned the Links at Firestone Farms. Wayne was a member of the Ohio Fertilizer Board, the Ohio Corn Growing Board, the Springfield Ruritans, and the Allen Lodge #276 in Columbiana. He was a life-long member of the New Springfield Trinity United Methodist Church in New Springfield. He was very active in his church participating in the Pastor Parish board and as a church trustee. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara; one daughter Laura (Tom) Rice of New Springfield; two sons Rodney (Loralee) and Michael (Cindy), all of New Springfield; eight grandchildren Cassie and Carlee Bacon, Madison and Braydon Baird, Bria, Raina and Bryce Bacon, and Dawson Rice; a brother Gordon (Beth) Bacon of Augusta, OH; sisters Carol (Steve) Withers of Poland and Beverly (Steve) Melching of Big Canoe, GA; and brother-in-law Roger Henry of Canfield. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Ruth Ann Henry. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at New Springfield Church of God, 3649 E. Garfield Rd, New Springfield with the Pastor Jonathan Holloway and Pastor Chick Chaney officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 19 at New Springfield Church of God, New Springfield and also one hour prior to the service, at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church. A Masonic service provided by Allen Lodge #276 will be held following calling hours Friday evening.
