Obituary

Wayne Richard Patterson, 88, of North Lima, passed away surrounded by family Sunday morning. Wayne was born on August 23, 1923 in Carrollton, Ohio, the son of Earnest and Minnie (Wenner) Patterson, and had been an area resident for over 40 years. A 1941 graduate of Carrollton High School, Wayne was a proud Navy veteran of WWII, earning a Victory Medal. He worked as a mason, an electrician, and a craftsman. After retiring from Republic Steel in Canton where he had been the maintenance supervisor, Wayne and his wife Mary purchased the Lake Park Motel and Restaurant in North Lima and operated it for twenty years. Wayne was skilled in many areas, and loved golfing and the outdoors. He belonged to the Mill Creek Seniors Golf League for many years, and golfed with the blind veterans on Fridays. He especially enjoyed golfing with his wife. He and Mary travelled extensively, and visited almost all fifty states and most of Europe. Above all else, Wayne was most proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to him, and he looked forward to close family gatherings with eager anticipation. He most enjoyed a good pizza and beer party to go along with being surrounded by his family. Wayne leaves to cherish his precious memory two sons, Alan (Kathy) Patterson of Poland and Richard (Judy) Patterson of Canfield; a daughter, Sheila (Mark) Braman of Canfield; a sister, Mary Speedy; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Christopher)Bokelman,Reid Patterson,Emily (Andrew) Salamon, Kristen (Humberto) Dimas, Michael Braman, and David Braman; and three great-grandchildren, Samuel and Lucy Bokelman, and Kohler Salamon. Besides his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Cinson, whom he married on March 3, 1945 and died on November 3, 2002; six brothers, John, Lorn, Elva, Scott, Earnest Jr., and Moyne; and two sisters, Addie Brooks and Rena Manbeck. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 27, at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in North Lima. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the services Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those who wish to make a contribution to Hospice of the Valley, or to a memorial the family is planning to honor Wayne and Mary with at Mill Creek Park. The family has entrusted the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with the arrangements.
