William W. Halter, 84, of 227 E. Pine Lake Road, North Lima, Ohio, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, February 8, 2010. William was born on August 12, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the son of Clarence and Lillian (Mertz) Halter. Bill grew up in Wooster, Ohio and later moved to Youngstown where he attended Woodrow Wilson High School. Bill was a Steel Valley All Star football player and was inducted into the Woodrow Wilson Football Hall of Fame. Mr. Halter received a Bachelors degree in Forestry from Colgate University in New York, while attending he was a three year starter for the Red Raider football team. He was a life long forester for the city of Youngstown until his retirement in 1992. William was a W.W. II Army-Air Force Veteran and a member of Petersburg Presbyterian Church. Mr. Halter was a loving and devoted husband and father preceded in death on April 10, 2008 by his wife, Mary R. (Robertson) Halter, whom he married on July 27, 1963. He is survived by one daughter, Mollie M. Halter; one son, William R. (Heather) Halter of Franklin, Massachusetts; one sister, Dorothy (Robert) McCausland of Youngstown, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Margie Halter of Poland, Ohio; and five grandchildren. William was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Halter, Paul Halter and one sister, Lois Sopko. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home with Rev. Juliann Joy officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 3-4 PM. The family requests in lieu of flowers that material contributions be made to the Petersburg Presbyterian Church.
