Obituary

Willis "Willy" E. Miller, 75, of 735 East Park Ave. Columbiana, passed away at 3:58 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Salem Community Hospital from complications of a ruptured appendix. Willy was born on August 13, 1932 in Columbiana. He was the son of Willis Ellsworth and Zora Margaret Tyson Miller, Sr. Mr. Miller was a life-long Columbiana resident. He retired from Ameritech, formerly Ohio Bell, where he worked as a lineman for 39 years, retiring in 1994. Willy had also worked for Hardings Gas Station known as City Service in Columbiana and in earlier years he had worked at Columbiana A&P as a Butcher. Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War where he received the rank of Corporal. Currently he was president of Salem Motorcycle Club and served in that position for many years. Willy also was a member of Competition Riders of America and the American Legion Benjamin Firestone Post #290 of Columbiana. Mr. Miller was a member of the Greenford Christian Church. Willy is survived by his loving wife, the former Mary Lou McCaughtry, whom he married March 14, 1953. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Karen Beck and her husband Lee of Greenford, Mrs. Debra Schaefer and her husband Charles of Columbiana, two sons, Ronny Miller and his wife Becky of Westerville, Ohio and Richard Miller and his wife Beth of Salem, a brother, Bruce E. Miller and his wife Carolyn of Greenville, Ohio, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Hollie Beck and Lisa and Jonathan Schaefer. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with Rev. Van C. Chiles officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery where the American Legion Benjamin Firestone Post # 290 of Columbiana will conduct a military honors service. Friends may call on Monday, July 21, 2008 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that material tributes be made to Make-a-Wish Foundation or Hospice of the Valley County Line Rd. Columbiana, Ohio 44408.
