Obituary

Wilma Laverne Knopp Souders, 95, died on Christmas Day at Salem Community Hospital. She was born on April 11, 1912, the second of ten children of Effie and Alvin Knopp. Wilma attended Germantown School, graduated from Columbiana High School and received her undergraduate college education from Kent State University and State College in Pennsylvania. In 1939, she received her master's degree from The University of Pittsburgh. Countless numbers of children, including some of her siblings, benefited from her 37 years of teaching. Her career began at Germantown School and continued at Eureka, New Middletown, and Covington and Taft Elementary Schools in Youngstown. She was a member of the Grace Church in Columbiana. Wilma is survived by her stepson, Wade (Eva) Souders of Sebring, her grandchildren Brandy (Pete) Wang of Florida and Kirk Souders of Akron; two brothers, Warren (Lois) Knopp of Columbiana, and Homer Knopp of Canby, Oregon; two sisters, Dorothy August of Greentown and Ruth Emch of Woodville. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Earl Souders of Ravenna, 21 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and friends, all who will cherish her memory. She touched the lives of so many. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Souders, whom she married on December 22, 1966. Also preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters, infant Edith, Lois Evelyn Knopp and Marion Robertson Haus; two brothers, Paul Lincoln Knopp and James Alvin Knopp, and three nieces. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with Rev. John Brownsburger officiating. Friends may call from 9-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be in Clarkson Cemetery. The family suggests that material tributes be made to Salem Area Visiting Nurses, 718 E.
