Alice L. 'Ma' (Wellman) Barnes

COLUMBIANA  – Alice L. “Ma” Barnes, 97,of Columbiana, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 1, 2024 at Masternick Memorial in New Middletown.

Alice was born on November 3, 1926, in Columbiana, a daughter of Milton F. and Daisy L.  (Lippley) Wellman.  A graduate of Fairfield High School, she married Roy E. Barnes on January 11, 1945. Alice worked at the Isaly’s in Columbiana as their manager until their closing in 1973; afterwards, she worked at the Columbiana Floral Company for many years.  She belonged to Columbiana Baptist Church, and enjoyed camping at the river, water-skiing, and travelling, especially to her Florida condo in the winter.  She also loved bingo and visiting the Columbiana Street Fair every year.

Alice leaves to cherish her memory daughter Linda (Arland) Hixson of New Middletown; sons Richard (Roberta McCullough) Barnes of Salem and Terry (Mary) Barnes of Girard; four grandsons, Chad, Jeremy (Jessica), Joshua (Kathryn), and Joseph; and eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Alice, Adison, Tanner, Noah, Maddox, Lydia and Charleigh “Charlie”.  She will also be missed by her cats Teddy and Gizmo.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy in 2014, grandson J.P. in 2018, brother Donald Wellman, sister Monnie Hunter and dog Gomer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 8 at 1:00 pm at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana with Pastor Jeff Jamieson officiating.

The family will receive friends at noon, an hour before the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests material contributions may be made in Alice’s memory to Hospice of the Valley, c/o Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley, 7676 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
